This year the Cup consisted of 8 elimination rounds, held at specialized racing tracks. The 10 fastest and strongest teams to emerge at the elimination stages competed in the final at the Smolenskoye Koltso racing track. The main judge of the racing championship was Oleg Keselman, Master of Sports, Champion of Russia and the USSR, and Director of the Mazda Sport Academy.

For the first time in Russia, the finals were held in the form of two-hour team races. The drivers of the ten finalist teams were provided with specially equipped Mazda MX-5 2.0 MT Aori cars, light racing versions of the popular Mazda MX-5.

Each team consisted of five drivers, one of which was a representative of the fairer sex, in line with the organisers’ regulations. The Aeroepxress team included Rustam Akiniyazov, Sergei Anashin, Dmitry Kaluzhsky, Ekaterina Obychaiko, and Vadim Semikin. The race results were strictly governed by the rules laid out for the events. Violations, including knocking over cones, driving with two wheels off the track, going completely off the track, and aggressive driving, were penalised. Overtaking in corners was prohibited. In the end, it was a penalty minute, applied as a penalty for overtaking in a no-overtaking zone, marked with yellow flags, that decided the final outcome of the race, putting the Aeroexpress team in second place. Victory was awarded to the PricewaterhouseCoopers Russia team

Rustam Akiniyazov, Commercial Director of Aeroexpress: “We would like to extend our gratitude to the Mazda Sport Cup organisers for the opportunity to take part in such an exciting competition! The strong team spirit and the thirst for victory that we so value in our daily business as a company, ensured that we achieved a great result on the track.”
