Aeroexpress Announces Tender for Consultancy Services in Purchasing Rolling Stock

Dec 12, 2011

As part of the ongoing programme of developing passenger railway and intermodal transportation services, Aeroexpress has announced a tender for consultancy services in selecting optimal rolling stock to replace the existing fleet, and choosing a service provider for its maintenance and repair.

Passenger traffic in Moscow airports is increasing every year, and the number of passengers travelling on Aeroexpress is growing even faster. Aeroexpress trains running to and from the airports in the first eleven months of 2011 carried 11.2 million passengers, 22% higher compared to the same period of the previous year. Annual passenger traffic in Moscow airports is forecasted to reach 77 million passengers by 2015. Over the same period, the number of people travelling on Aeroexpress may virtually double, totalling up to 20 million passengers per annum. In addition, Aeroexpress’ market share for the total number of passengers carried between Moscow and its airports will reach 25.5%, compared to the current figure of 21.58%. By that time, the existing rolling stock will become inadequate to accommodate the increased number of travellers. To avoid overcrowding on trains, the Aeroexpress management team has broached the subject of replacing the existing fleet with high-capacity trains.

Aeroexpress is pleased to invite either Russian or foreigh specialists to take part in the tender for drawing up technical specifications, and for holding a tender for the delivery of rolling stock and its maintenance and repair. The winner of the tender will be the bidder that offers the most favourable conditions as a whole. The results of the tender will be announced on 2 April 2012.
