Kazan Aeroexpress Trains to be Replaced During Sochi Olympics

Dec 30, 2013

27.12.2013 – Moscow. Between 1 January 2014 until the end of the Olympics in Sochi, the Lastochka (‘Swallow’) trains in Kazan will be replaced by new ED9E trains constructed at the Demikhovsky Engineering Plant. Just as the Lastochkas, ED9E train sets are equipped with both air conditioners and toilet facilities. Each train is fitted with a special carriage and a toilet facility, adapted for wheelchair users. As before, physically challenged passengers can use a free ‘Personal Assistant’ service, which includes meeting a physically challenged passenger at the Aeroexpress terminal, providing assistance in obtaining travel documents with the right to bypass the queue, helping to board the carriage. The travel assistant can also accompany the passenger to the check-in desk at the airport if required.

The Aeroexpress train timetable and fares will remain the same. The only difference between the ED9E trains and the Lastochkas is that the Demikhovsky Engineering Plant’s trains have no business class seats aboard. Therefore, the Business Class fare will be temporarily removed from the tariff range.

“It can be said, without exaggeration, that all national efforts are now being applied to make the Olympics in Sochi the best in history in terms of their organisation and the hospitality of the hosts. Aeroexpress is also making a huge contribution to this work,” said Nadezhda Dorzhieva, Head of the Aeroexpress Press Service. “For example, the recruitment and training of stewards and ticket cashiers for servicing Aeroexpress trains in Sochi is already under way. At the same time, we also do our best to maintain a high level of comfort and convenience for our passengers in Kazan.”

Aeroexpress trains run from Kazan Rail Terminal to Kazan Airport from 08:00 to 00:15. Return services from the airport to the rail terminal run from 07:00 to 23:20.
