Jan 30, 2014

30.01.2014 – Moscow. In less than six months since the launch of the Pay@Gate service, which makes it possible to pay for fares directly at turnstiles using a bank card, a total of 27 thousand Aeroexpress passengers have already taken advantage of the new feature.

The innovative Pay@Gate technology allows passengers to pay for their fare with contactless bank cards simply by placing them down on a turnstile’s reader. The turnstiles installed on platforms are equipped with universal card readers and are compatible with both conventional tickets of all types and Visa payWave and MasterCard PayPass contactless bank cards. The Pay@Gate service is available for trips in standard class carriages. The idea of using contactless cards to pass through turnstiles was developed by specialists from Visa and the company’s technological partner, Breeze Technologies.

The service has proven to be most popular at Sheremetyevo Airport: from 15 August to 31 December 2013, more than 13 thousand passengers paid for their fares at turnstiles with Visa payWave or MasterCard PayPass cards, while the results from Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports amounted to 10 thousand and 4 thousand passengers respectively.

“Now our passengers know that they no longer need to queue up at ticket offices or at ticket vending machines. To pay for your fare, you only need a contactless bank card. Contactless payments take only a couple of seconds. Last year, our passengers ‘tried out’ the new service. We expect the share of passengers using contactless fare payments to significantly increase in 2014,” said Rustam Akiniazov, Chief Commercial Officer at Aeroexpress.

We recall that the option of paying for fares at turnstiles using MasterCard PayPass cards has been available at Aeroexpress ticket offices and ticket vending machines since 2011. As of April 2013, this opportunity has also been made available to Visa payWave cards holders. When buying tickets at a ticket office or from a ticket vending machine, there is no need to hand your card over to a cashier or slide it into a machine – just place it down on the reader. It is not necessary to enter your PIN for payments up to RUB 1,000.
